Parents and scouts ... our motto is " Be Prepared."
With this in mind, I'm certain everyone continues to look at the weather. As a result, I'm certain everyone is
preparing for some type of moisture and some colder weather. No problem if you are prepared. Parents, please support and help your children organize so that they are prepared. Few thoughts;
1. pack a rain suite ( not a poncho ) and put the rain suite in the top of your backpack
2. waterproof shoes/insulated boots...something to stay dry which will help keep you warm
3. make certain you pack in some water that you will drink and use for cooking
4. think wool...not cotton....cotton and backpacking don't match..wool and backpacking do
5. think several thin layers vs. 1 thing that is thick
5. extra socks and shirt and underwear in a zip lock baggie
6. packing...keep it simple but thorough...suggest roll clothes up and place each item in a plastic zip lock
bag so it won't get wet...keep the pack light....we're only out 1 evening vs. a week so be simple
7. bring a flash light and make certain good/fresh batteries...bring cards or some type of simple games ( no electronics however)
8. MAKE CERTAIN your tent has a plastic sheet that you can place in the inside of the tent floor as it will serve as a waterproof barrier otherwise the water/rain WILL seep through the bottom of the tent...these plastic bottoms are in the scout equipment room.
9. GATHER LOTS OF DRY WOOD UPON ARRIVAL IN THE CAMPGROUND and place it under a plastic cover ( each patrol will have a plastic sheet to cover the wood ).....cannot overemphasize we need LOTS OF WOOD to make a fire that can get hot enough to cook on...you will have plenty of time to set up and then go gather it up and break it up...we'll need to start building good fire no later than 4:15 p.m.
10. Parents, we will call you upon arrival back at the church on Sunday morning...the boys cannot leave the
church on Sunday without some cleanup of the equipment.
11. Each scout needs to bring personal snacks
12. On Saturday morning, we will need to divide up the food into each patrol members backpacks to even out the
weight .........so save some room in your back pack.
Thanks everyone. BE PREPARED !
