Troop 31’s Annual Adventure: Blue Hole!
Depart: Saturday, January 20, 2007 8:00 a.m. - Meet at EYC House
Return: Sunday, January 21, 2007 12:00 noon - EYC House
Every scout’s favorite campout (or at least, most memorable) and a Troop 31 tradition for over 38 years! We have braved snow, freezing temperatures and heavy rains to have fun and
practice our camping skills at this beautiful creek side site in Cheatham County.
The Blue Hole is a full winter backpacking trip, encompassing a short, but strenuous hike in and out. The troop will organize this trip by patrols. Our activities will include a zip
line and merit badge sessions. The patrols will compete in contests including pitching tents, tug of war, knife throwing, fire starting and preparing a hot dessert on Saturday night.
We will cook by patrol. The patrol grubmaster should prepare meals for Saturday night and Sunday morning. The scouts must carry in all food stuffs and equipment to purify their water
for drinking and cooking.
Each scout should bring a sack lunch in a waterproof bag for Saturday’s lunch.
Each patrol will collect the necessary gear from the scout closet, including tents, stoves, etc., and will work to distribute all gear and food amongst its members. Depending on the
weather, we may need to pack for cold temperatures. Last year it was in the teens with a cold wind so warm clothing and sleeping bags can be very important. Scouts will not need their Class A uniform.
We anticipate being back at the EYC house at roughly noon on Sunday, January 21st. We will call via cell phones with our ETA. However, no scout may leave until all troop gear is
accounted for and stowed properly.
Parental assistance is needed. In addition, with regards to transportation, I will need to know how many drivers and how many seats with seat belts you have.
