The first campout for you is the NEW SCOUT Campout.
Tentative schedule follows:
Saturday, September 16, 2006
9:00 a.m. - Meet at EYC House and Load Trailer
Sunday, September 17, 2006
11:00 a.m. - Depart Campsite for the EYC House
You will work on some basic Tenderfoot requirements. Skills will be taught by older scouts
List of Camping Gear to Bring
- The Boy Scout Handbook
- Sleeping bag (good 3-season bag)
- Sleeping pad (Therm-a-rest)
- Crazy Creek (or camp chair)
- Water bottle
- Flash light
- Scout knife
- Small note pad and pen
- Bug spray
List of Clothing to Bring
- Pair of long pants
- Heavy shirt
- 2 T-shirts
- 3 pairs of socks (1 wool pair)
- Extra pair of shoes
- 1 Poncho or Rain Gear
- 1 Towel
- Personal toilet items
- Personal first aid kit
- Whatever snacks you want
- A light jacket
Objective for the New Scouts
- Have fun! We play games and do other “stuff”, and begin to learn about teamwork.
Sign off on certain requirements:
Tenderfoot
- Requirement 1: Present
yourself properly dressed, before camping trip. Show how to pack and carry your camping gear.
- Requirement 2: Camping one night. Pitch a tent and sleep in it.
- Requirement 3: Assist in preparing a patrol meal. Tell why it is important to cook and eat together.
- Requirement 4a: Whip and fuse a rope.
- Requirement 4b: Learn to tie taut line and half hitch knots and their uses.
- Requirement 6: Demonstrate how to raise, lower and fold the American flag.
- Requirement 7: Repeat from memory and explain the Oath, Law, Motto and Slogan.
- Requirement 8: Explain the buddy system.
Second Class
- Requirement 2c: On campout, demonstrate use of knife, saw and axe.
- Requirement 2d: Use knife, saw and axe to prepare tinder kindling fuel for cooking fire.
- Requirement 2e: Describe when it is appropriate to use a cooking fire and stove. Discuss safety.
- Requirement 2f: Demonstrate how to light a lightweight stove.
Objectives for the New Scout Parents
- Learn basic scout skills.
- Come to realize that we need your involvement and also realize we are a boy lead troop. Which means, there is lots of
stuff you don’t do because our scouts do it.
Scouts, bring a great attitude. You are ready to start on a great adventure that only few boys finish and become men.
