Paddling Seminar
August 27, 2006

Troop 31, along with a group of Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association instructors, are going to help jump start our 2006 - 2007 paddling year. All of the basics will be covered:

Solo Canoe:

  • Proper stroke technique
  • Draws, prys, sweeps, reverse strokes
  • Catching eddies

Tandem Canoe:

  • All of the strokes -- plus working together to maneuver the boat

Kayaks:

  • Stroke technique
  • “Wet” exits
  • Rolling

This is an important activity to learn good river skills. We will use these skills on the river.

Meet Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 1:30 pm at the EYC House. We will travel to Vivrett Creek Boat Dock at Percy Priest Lake. Driving directions will be available at this time. We should be back at EYC House by 6:00 pm.

Bring a snack and something to drink. Wear a swimsuit and shoes you can get wet. Bring dry clothes to wear home. Bring a towel. Bring sunscreen.

All scouts must have an updated Medical Release Form on file with the Troop prior to attending this event. Download the Medical Release form here.
